Shawn Yardley

Retired, former CEO of Community Concepts

About Shawn

Shawn Yardley retired from a career in social services at the state and local levels in 2023 but not before he accepted the appointment by Governor Mills to chair the Statewide Homeless Council. Most recently, the CEO of Community Concepts in Lewiston, Shawn previously served as the Director of Health and Human Services for the City of Bangor for 9 years where he oversaw public health, housing and General Assistance. Shawn worked in child welfare for Maine DHS for 17 years as a child protective worker and supervisor and 7 years as a regional administrator. For 27 years he taught courses in child welfare and ethics at the University of Maine School of Social Work. He has a BA in Sociology/Social Welfare from the University of Maine and an MBA from Husson University. He served on the Board of Visitors for UMaine Augusta and Husson University and on the boards of Educate Maine, Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, Maine Children’s Alliance, Catholic Charities Maine and NAMI Maine. Shawn also is past president of the Maine Center for Public Health and the Maine Public Health Association and currently serves on the Board of the Maine Community Foundation and Good Shepherd’s Public Policy and Advocacy Committee. Shawn and his wife Rita live in Bowerbank in Piscataquis County and together they are the proud parents of 7 children and 10 grandchildren.
