About Dhivya
Dhivya is a values-driven professional whose personal and professional journey is deeply rooted in Maine, shaped by both local and global perspectives. Born in Damariscotta and raised in Boothbay Harbor, Chennai (India), and Oakland, Maine, Dhivya brings a unique worldview grounded in the resilience of rural communities and the importance of diversity. For the past eight years, she has lived and worked in the Greater Portland area, contributing to efforts that build inclusive and just communities.
Dhivya is an attorney at Bernstein Shur, focusing on Labor and Employment law and litigation. In law school, she focused on litigation, business, and asylum law. Before becoming an attorney, she worked at the ACLU of Maine as its Engagement Coordinator and has also worked at multiple nonprofits focused on providing direct service to low-income, underresourced, and marginalized communities. Her experiences reflect a strong alignment with CEI’s mission to build a just, vibrant, and climate-resilient future, and are grounded in the values of stewardship, equity, diversity, innovation, and collaboration.
Dhivya is particularly drawn to CEI’s vision because it mirrors her own belief that economic development must be inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and community-led. Her lived experience across Maine’s rural towns and global cities—combined with professional expertise in the legal and non-profit sectors—positions her to bring both insight and empathy to CEI’s board.
Dhivya holds degrees from the University of Maine School of Law and Bowdoin College, and is recognized for her collaborative spirit, strategic thinking, and ability to bridge sectors to drive meaningful impact.
