Housing Goal Statement: To increase affordable housing opportunities for people with lower incomes through housing development, housing finance, technical assistance, education, counseling and targeted programming. CEI's Housing Program is a comprehensive program that has been creating affordable housing opportunity through the construction of new housing and rehabilitation and conservation of existing properties for the people of Maine since 1989. CEI's intervention in housing markets on behalf of low-income households is made possible by the partnership and investment of organizations who have community development and affordable housing missions that align with our own and who have capital to move into those communities and housing markets where we have an active interest.
Our program provides comprehensive housing services that include:

Lewiston-Auburn, Looking Ahead |
22 Park Street is a four-story, former furniture warehouse in downtown Lewiston that sat empty for years. Now, this architecturally significant structure is playing a starring role in the revitalization of Lewiston's downtown district. With the encouragement of the Lewiston City Council, and financing from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Fannie Mae, CEI is planning the facility's conversion to a mixed use development with 20 units of affordable housing for independent elderly people and employer-assisted housing for health care workers, as well as professional offices and retail space.
CEI is committed to help shape a strong future for the region and maintains a four-person office in Lewiston. Over the past year, CEI has promoted downtown redevelopment through homeownership, grassroots community organizing, and business development.
CEI is busy on both sides of the river with new initiatives that will bring owner-occupant residents back to in-town neighborhoods and contribute to the revival already underway. We are collaborating with city planners, business groups, and a growing list of area partners to explore long-term initiatives for sustainable economic development. |
