Tutorial One: Where are you now? PDF Print E-mail

What is your money personality?
(Are you militant with your money or are you lax with your cash?)

  • Do you regularly carry a balance on your credit card, or do you pay it off monthly?
  • Do you keep your pay stubs, bank statements, tax returns, W-2's, property tax bills, insurance bills, loan terms, etc.?
  • Do you balance your checkbook every month?
  • Do you reconcile your savings account every month or every quarter?
  • Do you reconcile your credit card statements?
  • Do you ever pay late fees and finance charges?
  • What do you do when you come up short on money before a bill is due? Where do you get the cash?
  • Do you ever bounce a check?
  • If you have an ATM card, do you keep track of your withdrawals?
  • Do you plan ahead for future purchases, or do you buy things on the spur of the moment?
  • Do you have organized files at home for all your financial information?
  • Do you know what day of the month each bill tends to come in, or is it usually a surprise?

These questions are just to get you thinking about how you currently manage your finances and alert you to areas that you might want to tighten up. Later tutorials will offer ways that may help you improve these areas.
