CEI as a Workforce Intermediary

Since the early eighties Coastal Enterprises' Workforce Solutions department has served as the organization's workforce intermediary arm, linking CEI's lending and investment functions to the employment and training needs of people with low-moderate incomes.  As a workforce intermediary, CEI has utilized a variety of workforce interventions to support businesses, incumbent workers and job seekers. We are commited to: linking people to jobs, expanding human resource capacity, integrating public and private services and programs, brokering/developing needs-based training opportunities, and advocating for workforce development policies.

CEI's experience in developing strategic alliances and relationships and facilitating key partnerships for over a quarter of a century positions CEI as a leader among workforce intermediaries in the State of Maine. Building relationships and maintaining ongoing communication with lending portfolio companies and other community stakeholders has been key to our success.  

It is through these partnerships that we have mobilized private and public resources to support innovative projects that provide training and employment opportunities for people with low incomes or who are at risk of poverty. These strategic initiatives are always designed with a vision of developing workforce strategies that fully integrate CEI's economic development philosophies, while at the same time complementing and augmenting the resources and activities of the workforce organizations and institutions in Maine to meet both business and worker needs.
