Renewable Energy

Maine is the most fossil fuel dependent state in the nation with 80% of its homes heated by oil. Fossil fuel price increases, greenhouse gas emissions and a projected production decline in oil within a generation makes Maine’s transition to renewables imperative. There is considerable activity and innovation in renewables happening here whether the technology is wind, biomass, geothermal, solar, tidal or wave energy and the application power or heating.

At CEI, we are constantly learning about these evolving renewable energy technologies, meeting with the inventors and entrepreneurs behind the innovations and seeking opportunities to support the growing renewables sector with technical assistance and financing. We are especially interested in technologies that can be deployed in decentralized or distributed energy projects where the economic, jobs and environmental benefits remain in the community or region.

CEI also maintains a long standing relationship with Efficiency Maine, www.efficiencymaine.com, the state’s energy efficiency program providing energy audits, information and product incentives.  We routinely introduce our business clients to Efficiency Maine for assistance in conserving energy and saving money.
